The city is really a one of two faces. The first fits the rustic themes of any old town. Old Mesquite, the center of its greatness, truly has the western small town feel. Down town everything is built around the single bank, which itself has the architecture of the old west. Then around it on both sides lives all of the compliments of the small town : series of mesquite's oldest and most treasured restaurants, stores, churches, and a single old fashion live performance theatre, all in walking distance of each other. Continuing on the strips of road, the city opens up into a more homely seen. Neighborhoods stretch and wrap around the city's original high school and stadium, libraries, and parks. A timeless railroad that is still used regularly today cuts right down the middle of old town, reminding its people what started the city in the first place. Down the street of the bank, the city begins to spread out, and Mesquite begins to look more like the average grazing town as there still remains some some open fields of small family owned ranches. Old Mesquite preserves the soul it built on years ago.
However, as you move out in all directions, the city begins to tell of its history and evolution. The farther away you get from down town the more city begins building and growing into a more monopolized place. Interstates start to cut in, and bring the all of the development that comes with it.Large store chains, restaurants, hotels, movie theatres, and all of the other works of other cities plant, root, and spread to its border, and begin giving the city a new feel that is shared by all of the counties around. In this more developed region holds Mesquite's most well known attractions such as the large AMC Theatre, Town East mall, and the famous Mesquite Rodeo. The dozens Neighborhoods wrap around in the regular suburbia style, and create dozens of schools pop up to fit the need. The outer regions of Mesquite take hold of the fast developing tone that has sweeped across North Texas.
The City of Mesquite has over time developed into somewhat of a treasure chest. The most common scenes of a developed region seal a barrier around the real treasure that old mesquite contains: a deep history of Texas when it was still starting out. It holds the treasure that waits for those who are willing to look threw the these growing times for Texas and stumble upon its rich history.
