Black Cat

Dracula was filled with superstitions, do you believe that all Gothic novels share this trait?

  1. I think so, because it adds a sense of mystery to the storyline, and causes the reader to suspect that all is not well, and that something dangerous may lie ahead. I am at a lack of knowledge since I have not read too many gothic novels, but I feel they all share this trait.

  2. Same here. Its as if Gothic novels exist to kind of criticize the crazy superstitions that existed. And yes they do foreshadow. Obviously the giving of a crucifix means that the person who gifted it fears that some great evil might approach them.

  3. I don't think all Gothic novels are filled with superstitions..I mean most are but some novels could be about things like bugs or animals..not all bugs or animals have supertitious stories.

  4. not necessarily. Gothic novels are supposed to be dark, depressing, mysterious, and gloomy, etc., but don't need to be based on superstitions like dracula was. Im sure that other gothic novels had a much more reality filled plot than this one did.
