Burning Flesh.

Dracula, the novel, described Dracula as having an "expression of peace" after he "died." What do you guys think about the ending?

  1. I found the ending quite interesting, especially the part about Dracula's final expression being one of peace. This made it seem like he was happy to die, and that he wanted to be released from his dark life. However, I did not see this coming, as I thought he was quite satisfied with being a vampire, as he is a true gothic villain. That's my opinion, how does everyone else feel?

  2. Maybe all Dracula wanted to do was release himself from damnation to hell. I mean he was practically already dead except for the fact that some evil thing was driving his body around and it wouldn't let him rest. Perhaps this is the reason for which he slept in a chapel. Now the killing -- he couldn't contain it, it was instinctual.

  3. Or Dracula might have had some good inside of him, that could only be channeled through death. Perhaps he just became so evil that he couldn't stop himself. It's a sad situation if you really think about it.

  4. I don't get it. How can you have an expression of peace if your "life" was based on something from hell.? And he was going to hell anyway with all the trouble he caused..did I miss something here?

  5. Well maybe death was really freedom. he was out of his curse. I would love to have been set free from the hell of being a monster.

  7. Maybe as a vampire, DRacula was living, but his soul was being tortured, and so maybe after his death, it was a sense of relief and freedom. Dracula was probably a totrured being, who secretly wanted to be released.

  8. Do you think his soul would be redeemed, like Mina's?
