From my perspective, I found the novel to be a little too descriptive. All the gory details were quite unnecessary for me. Do you all feel the same way, and why do you think people found this quality attractive in gothic novels?
Well this is what people were looking for. I guess they were just tired of perfect little love stories in which always ended in a marriage with a prosperous life. Haven't you ever seen something completely weird and have been curious? Well with books you could discover new things without having to talk to anybody. It's not like,"Hey Josh what do you think would happen if a vampire came into our school and slaughtered us all!" Plus back then we didn't have DVDs. We needed to details to help us imagine events.
The description is what makes a gothic novel. It provides so much insight and allows the characters to come alive. It also makes the sentences that could and that often seem repetitive and dull vibrant. In your book was the setting the foundation? I think our book would be empty without the detailed setting.
I agree with the previous statements. The details are what a Gothic novel. Without it you get no vision of how gruesome it is or the real terror of someone watching another get ripped to shreds. Personally, the details are what I crave for. Without it, the novel would just be another Fairytale. You want people to believe the story not laugh at it.
hahaa.!well.,i am not reading you all's novel but personally i love blood and gore it adds interest to the novel and makes it more appealing..,it makes someone want to keep reading on and on.,&& it is also part of gothic literature in its time.., the word GOTHIC should tell you that "ok this may be a bumpy bloody ride".,(:
Well its kinda a gothic novel of Vampires. Gore is to be expected. A good novel must be descriptive, and a novel such as this must be gory. Back then they weren't going to add sensorship just for you. This is what they wanted in a gothic novel.
Yeah, what's a gothic horror story without all the painstaking details? The gore and all that stuff is what attracted people to the novel in the first place.
I disagree jj do not think if we did not have all the gore and the very deep description we would not be that intersted in the novels sometimes we book Rated R!

ReplyDeletethe gory scenes make the book, and i think that compared to today's movies the book is not really that graphic.
ReplyDeleteShakespeare's theatre was gory too, as was Senecca's Roman theatre; perhaps people have always been drawn to the dark imaginings of the soul . . .
